For every window sold during 2006, Dream House Windows will donate a percentage of its sales to support funding initiatives of the JDRF. JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide.

“There are 20.8 million children and adults in the United States, or seven percent of the American population, who have diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association,” Lorenzo Emachah, vice president of Dream House Windows, reports. “While an estimated 14.6 million have been diagnosed, unfortunately, 6.2 million people are unaware that they have the disease – and a great number of these cases are children.”

Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $900 million to diabetes research, including more than $98 million in FY2005. In 2005, the Foundation funded 500 centers, grants and fellowships in 19 countries.
